Dear Parents,
As our teens and pre-teens begin to experience physical growth and the process of puberty, body image becomes front and center. The media broadcasts a view of what “beautiful” is to the world. And all of society seems to get caught up in that.
As adults, many of us struggle with self-esteem and body image. If much of our attention is placed on our body image, there is a pretty good chance that our teens will follow suit. What kind of body image do you have for yourself? How do you express this?
One of the first ways that I want to suggest to promote positive body image for your teens is to be gentle and loving with yourself. Everyone deserves love. Love is not conditional upon having a certain look. Accept that for yourself first. Your teens will get the idea.
To Your Family,
Jane Cabrera
