· Mind the noises – This is a funny but serious one. Have you ever sighed heavily when your teen says that they want to talk. Before they even open their mouth they may turn and leave after a long sigh. Unconsciously, you could be pushing them away from you, and that could leave them feeling isolated and seeking advice from their friends instead.
Be aware that your sighs and other sounds might be communicate that you find your teen annoying or bothersome to you. Think about how this feels, have you ever felt like that in someone's company? You want for your teen to have a sense of belonging and loving connection with you.
