How to get out of a Power Struggle

 Dear Parents,

#4  Way to Get Out of a Power Struggle – Use Loving Guidance

This is a technique that combines some of the others. Using our same example to demonstrate, Bill is supposed to take out the trash by 9:00 each night.  It’s 9:15 and he’s watching TV and the trash is sitting there.

Mom walks into the room, makes loving eye contact with Bill, gently places her hand on his back, and gently “guides him” to get up.  He’ll say "what Mom?" Since the agreement is trash by 9:00,  Mom just points to her watch.  She uses no words at all.  Bill is still confused.   Mom says one word – "Trash."  She continues to exert gentle pressure on Bill's back and friendly  eye contact until he gets up.

Brilliant, huh?  Try it out and let me know how it goes.  Feel free to drop me a note
